We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House to the following:
THAT Bill C-30 (the Clean Air Act) was referred to Legislative Committee before the second-reading stage to allow MPs greater latitude in amending the bill than would otherwise have been the case;
THAT the Prime Minister supported the referral;
THAT language presented by all four parties made it into the revised Bill C-30 (the Clean Air and Climate Change Act) in Legislative Committee;
THAT a National Carbon Budget, like the one in the revised Bill C-30, is absolutely necessary to ensure absolute reductions in greenhouse gas emissions;
THAT the Pembina Institute has stated that the revised C-30 “sets stronger targets in the short, medium and long term, does more on energy efficiency and more on smog”;
THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon the government to bring debate and a vote in the House on Commons on Bill C-30 immediately.
